Dead Stars
Brooklyn's Dead Stars craft fuzzy, hook-filled indie-pop that pairs crunchy guitars with playful pop melodies and big, explosive choruses. Made up of cousins Jeff Moore (guitars, vocals) and Jaye Moore (drums), along with longtime friend John Watterberg (bass), the band won over fans with 2014's debut LP Slumber and has spent the past few years playing countless live shows, sharing stages with acts like White Fence, Fucked Up, Nude Beach and Girlpool.

It's no surprise that Dead Stars' fuzzed-out sound has earned comparisons to indie-rock titans like Dinosaur Jr., Teenage Fanclub, Weezer, and The Lemonheads, but they're not riding the coattails of '90s nostalgia; they're simply remembering what drew them to music in the first place. The infectious college radio anthems that dominated the airwaves, the epic guitar riffs and anthemic choruses that led to dreams of quitting school, escaping suburbia, and touring the world, and the ear-splitting feedback resonating from all-ages clubs across America seeped into their brains and never left. It's what gives Dead Stars' songs that unmistakable feeling of being invincible, and the sense that nothing really matters except for where you are right now. It's based on the notion that you don't need gimmicks to make a statement: all you need are some catchy tunes and a couple of good friends to jam with.

On March 4th, Dead Stars will release their sophomore LP, Bright Colors, on their own Weird Tree Records. True to their signature sound and no-frills attitude, it features a mix of upbeat, hummable melodies, heavy, buzzing guitars, and straightforward songwriting that urges fans to sing along after just one listen. From the bouncy guitar lines and heavy-hitting chorus of lead single "Calm Punk" to the slow build of "Stay Here," it dives deeper into their sometimes nostalgic, always authentic world of upbeat indie-rock.
